Have you heard of White Gold? My friend whom was married to a American guy was here this summer in my country enjoying her holiday with her family and son. Now, in my country of residence, whenever daughters are married out of any family. Normally, the parents will give some dowry (in the form of Gold necklace, ear-rings, bangles) for their married daughters to bring back to her own family, this old custom has it that when the daughter goes back to her own home, and when the mother-in-law sees those Gold that she had with her, it goes to prove that her family is rich and therefore, their son has brought back good fortune for the entire family when he married this girl.
My friend was not a Gold lover, she went with her mother to the Goldsmith and exchanged those Gold dowries into White Gold or Palladium. Palladium
bullion is also essential in the jewelry industry; "white gold" is actually a palladium/gold alloy. She was overjoyed to be having White Gold instead of pure Yellow Gold and feels that the olden times of wearing Gold around her neck is old fashion. Now, she is the proud owner of White Gold Necklaces, bangles and ear-rings.
This had been a clever move of her and besides, her in-laws are all Americans, they don't appreciate these kind of old chinese customs.
