Nepal - Top 5 things when on TREK..

My top 5 things to take note of when you decided to do a Annapurna Trek.

1) Never Trek alone. Hire a guide if you can't find a companion. I've trusted my trekking trip with this agent called Galaxy Trekking & Expedition (P) Ltd. Email : galaxytrek@wlink.com.np, so far no complaints of my holiday with them. The whole time you are with your guide, he will guide you along the way and important word i learnt along the way, greetings to fellow trekkers and locals - "NAMESTE"

2) Become informed about high altitude sickness. My guide always reminded me to walk slowly while trekking up to high altitude areas, to enable your system to get used to breathing in the air from the surrounding where the oxygen is thin. So do the moonwalk up here...

3) Carry a good medicine kit and any drugs you need. A must when you are trekking in Nepal. I was sick during one of the treks and i quickly pop in 2 panadols before i slept. I was better the next day. If you remember my previous blog, i was also down with a tummyache too, luckily i brought some lomotil & charcoal. Other must bring drugs would be water purifier tablets, every stop you can top up your water supply with hot boilding water together with one tablet before you start your journey. And remember don't drink anything with their ice. I always drink can/bottled sodas whenever i have my meals at the teahouse/lodges.

4) Watch where you're walking. Don't step backward blindly when taking photos. This thing is a sure must to remember, don't be overexcited and step on the wrong places, it could cost you. At one of my treks, i wasn't taking any photos but i was stepping on a avalanche. Never seen one before, i even did some jumps on the avalanche and was scolded by my guide that it was dangerous doing that as the bottom part of the avalanche might be melting away and hence if i'm unlucky i could just slip into the snow and maybe buried alive. A important lesson i learnt.

5) Time your trek generously. Taking rests is not a sign of weakness. My agent did a wonderful itinerary for me, i just told them i have only 12days to spare and they did their best to tailor make my itinerary with sufficient time to rest and relax. Trekking with my guide was always filled with laugher and fun hence making my trek less unbearable. (not exercised for a long time)
